Finally, after quite a long wait, the donkeys are loose! On Friday, 7th February 2014 was the official opening of El Mexicano!

Since I have been involved a bit with programming the webpage and also creating policies and procedures, work flows and a bit of IT set up for the new restaurant, it was of course quite exciting for me to see it finally coming to life.

Max, the owner, is an ex-colleague of mine from my time at the school. He had engaged a designer, who come up with the branding and since I had sort of fallen in love with the donkeys, I couldn’t resist creating a special card for the opening.

I knew immediately I wanted to use the donkeys and somehow these words “The Donkeys are loose …” just popped up in my head. With having access to the artwork of the branding I could print the donkeys on colored paper according to the “kick” of the sauce. Like if you want your dish mild you would choose the green donkey, for medium you pick the yellow, the orange donkey is for hot and the red one for extra hot.

I also knew that Max loves green, so I printed the name on green paper. By accident I came across the colored background paper and it sort of looked Mexican to me and I found it a pretty good match. After a lot of hand cutting with the donkeys, I just had to arrange them on the card and it was done. I was very pleased with the end result.

Gabriele, Max’s wife, was opening the card on the night and I think she loved it. Of course Max liked it too.
